First glimpse of worldwide cell phone coverage

Thanks to 700 iPhone logs we now have data on 2.1 million mobile phone network cells.

Note 1:
The colors indicate the density of surrounding network cells. They do not show the range of the cell towers.

Note 2:
The results are preliminary since our database is based on only 700 iPhone logs … yet.
So please donate your iPhone logs too!

    I thought more of the geek culture…

    @Pit – Because, while geeks classically enjoy interesting stuff like this, they’re also, as a group, paranoid about giving out their information. Note I say this as one of the 700 that donated my logs ^_^

    Is there an updated database dump of GSM towers and Wifi? Where to get the current version?

      The Facebook like button is somewhere in the middle of the front page. We should probably move the button to a more prominent place …
